Schiff-base, 4,4'-thiodianiline, Aromatic aldehydes, Anti-corrosionAbstract
A new Schiff base derivative were prepared from diamine derivatives (4,4'-thiodianiline) and various aromatic aldehydes (2-chrobenzaldehyde,3,5-dichlorobenzaldehyde, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde, 2-hydroxy benzaldehyde, 4-hydroxy benzaldehyde and indol-3-carbadehyde) by condensation reaction using acid catalyzed under reflux to yield final products which acted as good corrosion inhibitor against 1M hydrochloric acid at different temperatures (293, 303 and 313 oC). These compounds showed excellent protection for carbon steel 45. Based on the results obtained from the present study, the IE% inhibition efficiency was observed for the synthesized compounds [N1-N6], ranging from 87% to 96%. The final reaction was investigated using thin-layer chromatography. All structures of new synthesis compounds were proven using FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and mass spectroscopy.
